Leather is an inherently environmentally friendly product. In essence, it takes a by-product of beef and dairy farming and transforms it into a versatile and highly prized material - one which itself can be recycled when it has outlived its original use.

At Bridge of Weir, not only do we believe that leather is an environmentally sustainable product, but that it can be produced in a responsible manner. Substantial investment has made us one of the most modern and environmentally efficient leather manufacturers in the world.

Complying with accredited quality management systems, parent company of Bridge of Weir, Scottish Leather Group, designed and built a self-funded £6 million Thermal Energy Plant which converts process waste into energy and a £1.3 million Ultra Filtration Plant which has resulted in 40% of our water now being recycled.

In recognition of our commitment to sustainability, the Scottish Leather Group received the VIBES Management (Large) Award at the Scottish Environment Business Awards 2018.

It is due to our commitment in this innovative technology that gives us the lowest carbon footprint of any leather maker in the world.
